One of the more obscure games in circulation a free-to-play game developed by independent company Digital Extremes (DE) called Warframe. At its base, the game is a self-reported third person, co-op focus action game. The game has two main game modes, player versus player (PvP) and player versus environment (PvE).

The game’s PvP mode is called “The Conclave” and plays much like the PvE mode in terms of gameplay. However, certain items and abilities are changed so that the playing field can be more level. This mode is mostly ignored by the community, however.

Unlike most multiplayer games out there, the game’s PvE mode is its main selling point, with most of the players choosing to team up with others to take on public missions rather than duke it out in arenas against other players.

The game’s PvE mechanics are based on missions that are scattered throughout the available planets on the map, and combat is based around 4 factors, a primary weapon such as rifles, a secondary such as handguns, melee weapon such as kantanas or hammers, and the abilities of the warframes themselves. However, players are only able to equip one warframe at a time despite having the ability to own multiple ones at once.

The main objective of the game is to play through missions to get loot such as blueprints and weapon components that can be used to create new warframes or weapons in order to advance to newer locations. The ultimate goal of the game is a mystery however, as no clear “endgame” has been discovered yet, which has led to a running joke in the community that there is no endgame, and that they must resort to customizing their individual warframes, aka “fashionframe.”

Even though the game is labeled as a free-to-play, it still has the inclusion of premium currency called “platinum” which allows for players to rush the build time on items that are in the foundry and buy cosmetics for your items.

Even though platinum cost real money, it does not need to be bought with money, since enterprising players can trade rare items of value in game for platinum from other players, allowing poor or strictly free-to-play players the ability to fully enjoy the game. Also, despite the ability to buy things with premium currency, every in-game item weapon and warframes can be obtained without paying a single dime via grinding.

The developers of the game also host live-streams on the Twitch gaming channel to announce to the community news of the latest updates and changes that will be coming to the game, showing an unusual amount of transparency that few game developers show these days, which help build trust between the game’s community and the development team.

The game recently launched its greatest update yet last year, titled, “Plains of Eidolon” in which a massive new PvE map was introduced to players, allowing them to freely roam and fly around as they pleased exploring the landscape to their pleasure.

The game’s success had led to the game being called a “rouge success” since it managed to attract many players despite remaining relatively low profile at the same time. The game, however, was not always so successful as its original release back in 2012 was heavily criticized for being repetitive, buggy, and boring. However, through a series of patches and updates, the game slowly became what it is today.

The game has had a proud legacy so far despite its rough start and is now consistently ranked in the top ten most played game on steam. The current success can be attributed to the efforts of DE and words of the mouth by the community. Pop into steam, or your Xbox1 or PS4 store to download the full game free of charge today.
