Coffee, for some adults, is a necessity in the morning. It wakes them up and helps give them that little kick to start their day.

What is the role of coffee in high school? It is considered normal in the working world, but is coffee’s presence in schools better or worse for students? Those who have zero periods would know better than most how hard it really is to get up in the mornings.

Senior Marisa Copas said that coffee helps her to be focused and be ready for class. Coffee is also said to help other students stay awake during those classes that seem to go on forever.

With all the positive things about coffee, there is also a negative side. Coffee does not always help students be more productive. It can make them dependent on it. Senior, Daisy Valenzuela told the Lariat that “coffee makes me feel shaky from the caffeine and that can make it even harder for me to concentrate.”

With always having the option of having coffee to wake you up, it can affect your sleep. Students might not be getting enough sleep to help them prepare.

Coffee is not known for being the most financially friendly expense for students, however, depending on how often you drink it and where you buy it, the price can vary.

Starbucks seems to be one of the most popular places that people purchase their coffee from. If you have ever been there, you know that, depending on what size you get, costs may vary: a Frappuccino can be more than five dollars.
